Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings put their play- offs hopes back on track as they bounced back with a thumping 78 run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Tata IPL 2024 encounter at Chennai.
SRH Skipper Pat Cummins hoping for dew effect later on while batting appeared to have misread the pitch and opted to bowl first. CSK after a rather slow start roared back to post and impressive 212 / 3 in their 20 overs . CSK lost opener Ajinkya Rahane early for 9 .
But Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was solid and played some delightful shots with superb placement and timings and was very unlucky not to get to a fine hundred scoring a fine 98 ( 54 balls, 10 fours 3 sixes) . Giving the CSK skipper superb support was Kiwi Daryl Mitchell , who finally came good with a attacking 52 ( 32 balls, 7 fours , 1 six) .
Power left- hander Shivam Dube gave a hint to the Indian selectors ahead of the T20 2024 World Cup team selection with a power innings in the middle- order with an unbeaten 39 ( 20 balls , 1 four, 4 sixes). Given a thunderous applause as he came out to bat Mahendra Singh Dhoni remained not out 5 as CSK finished strongly. Given the SRH batting line-up it was a good total.
SRH bowling : Bhuvneshwar Kumar 1/ 38 ( 4 overs), Nitish Reddy 0/ 8 ( 1 over) , Shahbaz Ahmed 0/ 33 ( 3 overs), T Natarajan 1/ 43 ( 4 overs) bowled well than the figures suggest. Jaydev Unadkat 1/ 38 ( 4 overs) , Pat Cummins had another off- day 0/ 49 ( 4 overs).
In reply , SRH began positively only to implode soon after . Travis Head once again out cheaply for 13 with total at 21-1, 1. 5 overs. Impact player Anmolpreet Singh was out for 0 first ball . Suddenly two wickets rocked SRH . Needing a partnership Abhishek Sharma threw away his wicket for 15. when situation needed him to stay. The poor form of Aiden Markram continued he struggled for his 32 ( 26 balls, 4 fours). SRH batting was tottering . Nitish Reddy out for ( 15 ) . Heinrich Klaasen too struggled for his uncharacteristic 20 ( 21 balls , 1 six). Abdul Samad ( 19) , Shahbaz Ahmed ( 7) , Skipper Pat Cummins ( 5) , Jaydev Unadkat ( 1) . Bhuvneshwar Kumar was not out for as SRH were bowled out for a dismal 134/ 10 in 18. 5 overs.
CSK bowling : Deepak Chahar 0/ 22 ( 3 overs), Tushar Deshpande 4/ 27 ( 4 overs) was impressive. Mustafizur Rahman 2/ 19 ( 2.5 overs), Ravindra Jadeja 1/ 22 ( 4 overs), Shardul Thakur 1/ 27 ( 4 overs), Matheesha Pathirana 2/ 17 ( 2 overs)
Too much reliance on Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma and the poor form of the dangerous duo – Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram is hurting SRH big time . They cannot afford to lose any more matches now . That would dent their play-offs hopes after a superb aggressive start.

SRH Skipper Pat Cummins needs to take wickets too in two outings he has been tab bit expensive. T Natarajan has been the star for SRH in the bowling and among the wickets as well. He needs support now in matches ahead.
