Desperate to get first win in Tata IPL 2024 , Mumbai Indians finally got the much awaited victory as they beat Delhi Capitals by 29 runs at a high-scoring thriller at Wankhede stadium Mumbai . For Mumbai it was their first win while DC slumped to their fourth loss.
DC Skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to field first. A move that would prove costly . As MI in front of the home crowd went after the DC bowling straight away. MI openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan were aggressive from the start . Rohit scored a blazing 27 ball 49 ( 6 fours , 3 sixes) before he was bowled by Axar Patel.
Ishan Kishan chipped in 42 ( 23 balls , 4 fours 2, sixes) . The duo put on 80-1, 7 overs. The intent was clear a big total . Ishan Kishan was brilliantly caught and bowled by Axar Patel. There after MI lost couple of wickets . Skipper Hardik Pandya scored 33 ball 39 ( 3 fours, 1 six). Much awaited comeback of Suryakumar Yadav was a flop out for 0. Tilak Varma fell for ( 6). Big – hitting Aussie Tim David gave the innings the power with a superb unbeaten 45 ( 21 balls , 2 fours and 4 sixes). But the Mumbai Indians innings ended in aa spectacular fashion as West Indian Romario Shepherd smashed 32 runs in the last over bowled by Anrich Nortje, hammering four sixes and two fours as his 10-ball-39 not out ensured the fourth highest innings total in this IPL for MI.
This was also their highest total at Wankhede. Mumbai Finishing at an imposing 234/ 5 in their 20 overs. The onslaught Left DC Skipper Rishabh Pant shaking his head in disbelief.
DC bowling looked good in the middle but Shepherd’s sensational blitz knocked them out of the game . It’s bowling figures read : Khaleel Ahmed 1/ 39 ( 4 overs), Ishant Sharma 0/ 40 ( 3 overs) , Jhye Richardson 0/ 40. ( 4 overs), Axar Patel 2/ 35 ( 4 overs), Lalit Yadav 0/ 15 ( 1 over) , Anrich Nortje 2/ 65 ( 4 overs) a game to forget.
In reply, DC were asked for a daunting target and had to go from the start . David Warner fell early for 10 . Prithvi Shaw played for his 66 ( 40 balls, 8 fours , 3 sixes), Abishek Porel 41 ( 31 balls , 5 fours).DC Skipper Rishabh Pant disappointed out for ( 1). DC batsmen could to chase the big target buy losing wickets regularly. Axar Patel ( 8), Lalit Yadav ( 3), Kumar Kushagra ( 0). TH eDC innings would have in absolute tatters had not Tristan Stubbs played a breathtaking attacking unbeaten innings of 71 ( 25 balls, 3 fours, 7 sixes). Delhi eventually managing to reach 205/ 8 in their 20 overs. Mumbai winning by 29 runs.
Mumbai bowling figures were : Gerald Coetzee 4/ 34 ( 4 overs) was impressive . Well supported by Jasprit Bumrah 2/ 22 ( 4 overs), Akash Madhwal 0/ 45 ( 4 overs), Romario Shepherd could not shine with the ball like his batting 1/ 54 ( 4 overs), Mohammad Nabi 0/ 17 ( 2 overs), Piyush Chawla 0/ 32 ( 2 overs)
Booed by the crowd in previous games Hardik Pandya finally gets a win under his belt in Tata IPL 2024 . This win is a huge sigh of relief for him as well as the team.
