Prime Minister Narendra Modi has  underlined the importance of people’s participation in the efforts for water conservation and said the governments’ attempts alone cannot be successful.

In his virtual address at the first national conference of water ministers from states, Modi said water should be a subject of cooperation, collaboration and coordination among states and asked them to plan in advance in view of the fast pace of urbanisation.

His remarks assume significance as disputes over water-sharing have lingered among several states for decades.

PM Modi quoted by ANI also said, India has made major strides in water security. Our Water vision towards 2047 will be a big contribution to Amrit Kaal. The nation is working together to build 75 Amrit Sarovars in every district. Till now 25,000 Amrit Sarovars have already been constructed.

Stressing on the need to switch to technology, PM Modi explained, We need to use technologies like Geosensing and Geomapping in the field of water conservation. Industry and agriculture are two sectors where water is required. Jal Jeevan Mission has become a major development parameter to provide water to every household.
