After the BJP stormed to power in West Bengal with a the stunning assembly polls win in May 2026, for former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee the loss meant her 15- year reign had ended . If the loss shocked her then her woes became big as 20 of her MP’s did a Eknath Shinde act in West Bengal turning rebel . The rebels went ahead and merged with a lesser known political outfit the NCPI of Tripura.
Mamata’s worries were further doubled when the Election commission went ahead and ,temporarily froze the original “All India Trinamool Congress” (AITC) name and its “Flowers and Grass” (Jora Ghash Phul) symbol due to an internal leadership dispute, allotting temporary separate identities for the upcoming , October 6, 2026 assembly bypolls in Nandigram and Rejinagar. Mamata Banerjee-led Faction: Allotted the name “Mamata All India Trinamool Congress” with the “football player” election symbol.Ritabrata Banerjee / Arup Roy-led Faction: Allotted the name “Democratic Trinamool Congress” with the “envelope” election symbol.
As the battle between the TMC factions intensify in the days ahead , standing solidly with Mamata during the biggest test of her party since it’s formation in 1998 is the articulate, and combative MP from Krishnanagar 51- year-old Mahua Moitra. Ever since the 20 TMC MP’s decided to move away from Didi, Mahua has led the attack slamming them in her inimitable aggressive and fiery style .
The attacks have been no – holds barred . The tweets of hers indicate she is not willing to hold back her deep anger on the rebels who ditched Didi post poll results and cosying up to the BJP . Mahua has trained her guns not only at the rebels but the BJP and the Modi government too . Attacks have been hard-hitting and packing a punch and expectedly grabbing the headlines.

Moreover, Mahua has gone through some rough days too as some protestors pelted eggs during her constituency visit . Earlier it may be recalled that Supreme Court had refused to entertain Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra’s plea challenging a Calcutta High Court order directing her to appear before police in a criminal case, with the court questioning her fear that eggs might be thrown at her.
A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Sheel Nagu came down on Moitra for seeking a virtual appearance before the investigating officer, asking why should a politician fear eggs when freedom fighters braved bullets. “You are a Member of Parliament? Having taken the plunge into politics, why do you fear eggs? When our freedom fighters have taken bullets on their chest? These are applications that should not come before this court at all,” the bench told senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan who appeared for Moitra.

Known to take on the BJP in her fiery avatar, Mahua also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent clarion call of do not travel abroad with a scathing jibe. PM MOdi viwers in a message had said – “Don’t travel to foreign countries for tourism. Avoid organising destination weddings in foreign countries. We should live by the mantra of ‘Wed in India’. Avoid buying gold if it’s not necessary.”

That was not all when the BRICS 2026 Summit Gala Dinner had all vegetarian dishes on the table , Mahua was quick to slam the move and wrote on x . Mahua has shown the combative attribute many a time . When she was expelled from the Lok Sabha over cash for query issue . She did not bow down and won the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat over her BJP rival Amrita Roy , for whom Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned . The loss hurt the BJP big . Apparently according to various media reports , Prime Minister Modi walked out of the Lok Sabha on July 1, 2024, just as Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra stood up to address the House during the debate on the Motion of Thanks.
In her characteristic style she urged him to stay, saying in Hindi and English, “Yeh bhi sunte hue jaaiye, dariye mat” (“Please listen to this as well, do not be afraid”). Moitra noted that the Prime Minister had visited her constituency twice during the election campaign, adding that he should at least listen to her speech in Parliament.
