Chennai Super Kings could not have hoped for a better homecoming as they beat Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs in high scoring thriller at Chepauk .
LSG skipper K L Rahul won the toss and decided to field first . And he was made to pay for his choice . CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Kiwi Devon Conway came out with a mission and intent from the word go. The duo put on super 110 for the first wicket in mere 9.1 overs before Gaikwad fell , But not before scoring another fine innings of 57 ( 31 balls , 3 fours , 4 sixes) . Conway on the other hand too played a good support hand scoring 47 ( 29 balls , 5 fours 2 sixes) . CSK had the momentum the platform for huge score . Shivam Dube promoted up the order scored a quick 27 , Moeen Ali 19 , Ben Stokes fell for 8. Ambati Rayudu scored an unbeaten 27 (14 balls 2 fours, 2 sixes) . Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashed two sixes in Mark Wood’s last over . CSK finishing at an imposing 217 / 7in their 20 overs .

As he raced to an power packed 53 ( 22 balls, 8 fours , 2 sixes ) Skipper K L Rahul scored 20 . The duo put on 79 in 5.1 overs before Mayers fell. The chase was on. BUYt CSK bounced back with experienced Moeen Ali and Kiwi Mitchell Santner coming to the party and turning the game with CSK way. LSG batting failed to capitalise the start . Quick wicket fell Deepak Hooda ( 2) , Kruinal Pandya ( 9) , dangerous Marcus Stoinis ( 21 ) , NIcholas Pooran ( 32) Ayush Badoni ( 23) , Krishnappa Gowtham not out 17 and Mark Wood remained not out 10 at the end. LSG finishing at 205/ 7 in their 20 overs 12 run short.
CSK skipper MSD was unhappy with his seamers bowling lot of no balls and wides and expressed his disgust at the post match presentation. But the CSK bowlers in the match especially the spinners – Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner were brilliant . Ali had figures of 4/ 26 ( 4 overs) , Santner 1/ 21 ( 4 overs) , Ben Stokes 0/ 18 ( 1 0ver) looked rusty, Tushar Deshpande 2/ 45 ( 4 overs) , Rajvardhan Hangargekar 0/ 24 ( 2 overs) , Deepak Chahar back from injury was expensive 0/ 55 ( overs)
