Gujarat Titans gave their play- offs chances a further boost as they scored an important 38-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a Tata IPL 2025 encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
SRH Skipper pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first . And GT batsmen at home made merry of the opportunity. SRh were let down by uninspiring bowling and sloppy fielding . GT Openers – Sai Sudharsan 48 ( 23 balls , 9 fours0 and Skipper Shubman Gill 76 ( 38 balls , 10 fours , 2 sixes) gave the innings the start they needed for big total . The duo put on 87 for the first wicket in 6. 5 overs when Sudharsan fell. Gill was second to go at the total of 149 2 in 13th over.
Then Jos Buttler took over the onslaught in his own characteristic way smashing a power packed 64 (37 balls, 3 fours, 4 sixes). Washing ton Sundar scored 21. Shahrukh Khan was not out 6. Rahul Tewatia ( 6) and Rashid Kahn ( 0) as GT finished at an impressive 224/ 6 in their 20 overs. It would test the struggling SRH batting line- up.
SRH Bowling : A season to forget for Mohammed Shami 0/ 48 (3 overs) has been a huge let-down. Jaidev Unadkat 3/ 35 ( 4 overs) , Pat Cummins 1/ 40 ( 4 overs) , Harshal Patel 1/ 41 ( 3 overs) , Zeeshan Ansari 1/ 42 ( 4 overs) , Kamindu Mendis 0/18 ( 2 overs)
IN reply < SRH needed a strong start and openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma showing the intent . The duo put on 49 in 4. 3 overs. Head was first to for 20 ( 16 balls , 4 fours) . SRH would have loved him to stay on. But Head disappointed yet again out to stunning catch by Rashid Khan . Head’s early dismissal has been the story for SRH this season. So too have been batting line- up which has simply barring three games have not fired at all. Abhishek Sharma was the only bright spot with 74 ( 41 balls, 4 fours, 6 sixes)
Others too struggled – Ishan Kishan ( 13), Heinrich Klaasen ( 23), Aniket Verma ( 3) , Kamindu Mendis ( 0). Nitish Kumar Reddy not out ( 21 ) and Pat Cummins not out 19 were at the end as SRH managed 186/ 6 in their 20 overs.
Cummins at post- match presentation admitted his side gave away 20- 25 runs extra towards the end of the GT innings and that made the difference at the end.
