Delhi Capitals continue to keep their slim play-offs hopes alive as they beat Lucknow Super Giants by 19 runs in Tata IPL 2024 encounter at the Arun Jaitley, stadium , Delhi.
LSG skipper K L Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl at first . DC got off to a horror start with power hitter opener Jake Fraser-McGurk out for 0 . Abishek Porel put the innings back on track with an attacking 58 ( 33 balls, 5 fours, 4 sixes) .
Giving Porel good support was Shai Hope who chipped in with aggressive 38 ( 27 balls , 3 fours, 2 sixes) . After missing the previous match due to ban Skipper Rishabh Pant scored 33 ( 23 balls 5 fours) .
Tristan Stubbs gave the DC innings the power finish with a blistering unbeaten 57 ( 25 balls , 3 fours , 4 sixes), Axar Patel was the other not out batsman 14 ( 10 balls 2 fours) . DC total an imposing 208/ 4 in their 20 overs

Chasing the big total , LSG were rocked early . Skipper KL Rahul Out for 5 . Fellow opener Quinton de Kock dismissed for 12 . Both fell to seasoned Ishant Sharma . Big -hitting Aussie Marcus Stoinis was out stumped off Axar Patel for 5 .
Deepak Hooda was the third victim of impressive Ishant Sharma without disturbing the scorers for 0. DC were tottering at 44-4, 4.1 overs. Ayush Badoni soon fell for 6 putting LSG in deep trouble at 71/ 5 in 7.3 overs .
Nichloas Pooran with a blazing 61 ( 27 balls , 6 fours, 4 sixes) just delayed the inevitable for a while . Arshad Khan played a stunning innings to give LSG some hope with an unbeaten 58 ( 33 balls , 3 fours, 5 sixes) .
But the target of DC was just too much . Krunal Pandya ( 18) Yudhvir Singh Charak (14) , Ravi Bishnoi ( 2) , Naveen-ul-Haq not out 2 . LSG finally managing 189 / 9 in their 20 overs, losing match by 19 runs.
Delhi Capitals bowling : Vastly experienced Ishant Sharma was brilliant up front with 3/ 35 ( 4 overs) and rightly bagged the man of the match . After the loss in their penultimate league game, LSG are all but out of the play-off race. DC’s win paved the way for Rajasthan Royals qualification to the play-offs.
Delhi moved to 14 points, same as Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, and their playoff chances depends on a sequence of other results.
