Gujarat Titans overwhelmed defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs in a Tata IPL 2024 encounter at Narendra Modi stadium. GT were powered by brilliant tons by Skipper Shubman Gill and fellow opener Sai Sudharsan.
Earlier CSK Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to bowl first . And playing for pride GT came out with intent and aggression . Both the GT openers Skipper Shubman Gill 104 ( 55 balls , 9 fours, 6 sixes) and Sai Sudharsan 103 ( 51 balls , 5 fours, 7 sixes) smashed aggressive hundreds and put on record 210 for the first wicket in 17.1 overs. Gill’s animated and angry celebrations after his hundred showed how much it meant for him .
CSK bowlers had no clue and looked frustrated . GT piled on a massive 231 / 3 in their 20 overs. Shahrukh Khan was run- out for 2. While David Miller was not out 16 .

But a fine partnership between Daryl Mitchell 63 ( 34 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes ) and Moeen Ali 56 ( 36 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes) put CSK back on track . But once the duo fell the innings fell apart. The required rate was too much for others – Shivam Dube ( 21) , Ravindra Jadeja( 18) , Mitchell Santner ( 0).
Greeted by the huge crowd wherever he has played even for a brief Mahendra Singh Dhoni delighted fans with an unbeaten 26 (11 balls, 1 four, 3 sixes) . CSK would eventually finish at 198/ 8 in their 20 overs . GT winning by ease 35 runs.

The win keep GT hopes of play-offs alive. In the points table too GT moved from last to 8th place with 10 points from 12 games and two to play ahead. CSK remain on fourth with 12 points, their net run rate took a hit, dropping from +0.700 to +0.491.
