England bounced back in style to beat India by 4 wickets in 2nd ODI of the three- match ODI at Cardiff . This after England Skipper Harry Brook won the toss and opted to bowl first .
India openers Skipper Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma made a steady start 44-1, 7.4 overs. Gill was the first to go for 31 . Rohit Sharma on the other hand struggled to get his rhythm and found runs not easy to come by. he was tentative too and as result Rohi could score a below par 26 ( 47 balls , 1 four, 1 six) . The fluency associated with Rohit was not seen. Ishan Kishan fell for 1 after he mistimed a pull shot off Sam Curran who shrewdly bowled the short ball .
‘King Kohli’ Virat unlike Rohit was in sublime touch and batting with ease and went on to score a fine 65 ( 66 balls 8 fours) . Deputy Shreyas Iyer too came good and top- scoring with 66 ( 71 balls 5 fours 2 sixes). But the batting which promised so much with Iyer and Kohli in the middle faltered soon after .
Washington Sundar 2, Axar Patel 1 , Shivam Dube 0 . Gurnoor Brar 7 , Jasprit Bumrah threw his bat around to score 20 not out ( 13 balls 3 fours 1 six) , Prasidh Krishna 0. India all- out for 233/10 in their 50 overs.
England Bowling : Jofra Archer was impressive yet again 3/47 ( 10 overs) well supported by Saqib Mahmood 2/52 ( 9 overs), Gust Atkinson 3/50 ( 9 overs), Adil Rashid 0/34 ( 5 overs), Sam Curran 1/23 ( 6 overs), Will Jacks 1/21 ( 5 overs)
England chasing 234 were rocked early openers – Ben Duckett 0, Jacob Bethwell 4 with the score 8-2, 3.4 overs. Skipper Harry Brook unfazed by fall of wickets kept his aggressive game but fell for 16 ( 16 balls 2 fours, 1 six), Sam Curran coming ahead of Jos Buttler scored a quick 26 ( 31 balls , 4 fours). The seasoned Joe Root was solid on the other hand and kept his cool as wicket fell around him. Jos Buttler too did not last long out for 17 ( 18 balls 1 four, 1 six), Will Jacks 30 ( 44 balls 2 fours)
Root was in complete control and anchored the innings superbly and needed some support and which he got from Gus Atkinson towards the end .
Root was unlucky not to score a fine hundred left stranded on 99 not out ( 133 balls 9 fours) and along with Atkinson not out 23 ( 16 balls 3 fours 1 six) saw England not only home but level the series 1-1. England reaching 235 /6 ( 44. 1 overs)
Another superb knock by Joe Root that fell agonisingly short of a century in England’s win over India in the second ODI 👏
