Bangladesh Chased down a challenging total set by Sri Lanka to win by three wickets in a CWC23 encounter played in pollution hit Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Earlier Bangladesh Skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to field first . Sri Lanka lost opener Kusal Perera early for ( 4). Other opener Pathum Nissanka was fluent in in 41 ( 36 balls 8 fours), Skipper Kusal Mendis scored ( 19), Sadeera Samarawickrama ( 41). Charith Asalanka added the spark to the innings with a fine hundred 108 ( 105 balls, 6 fours , 5 sixes). Angelo Mathews became the first batsman ever in the World Cup history to be timed out. Dhananjaya de Silva chipped in quick 34, Maheesh Theekshana ( 22) . As Sri Lanka posted a good total 279 in their 50 overs.

But the chase got the momentum thanks to the superb 169 run stand between Skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto. Shakib Al Hasan played a skipper’s knock 82 ( 65 balls, 12 fours 2 sixes) while Shanto missed his hundred by 10 runs scoring 90 ( 101 balls, 12 fours), Towhid Hridoy not out 15 and Tanzim Hasan Sakib not out 9 saw the tigers home.
