West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee met the families of those killed in Sitalkuchi, Cooch Behar, violence. An 18-year-old first-time voter was shot dead in Sitalkuchi when he had queued up to vote on Saturday.
In a separate incident, central forces shot dead four voters allegedly in self-defense the same day.
Soon after the incidents of violence on Saturday, the Election Commission banned all political leaders from entering Cooch Behar district for 72 hours. Later, the poll watchdog banned Banerjee from campaigning for another 24 hours for her remarks against central forces and for appealing against a split in the Muslim votes.
The EC said she had violated the poll code.
Later at a rally in Bidhannagar Mamata trained her guns at BJP by saying : “BJP knows that they will lose the election so they are taking help from all central agencies to stop me from campaigning.
I am a street fighter. I will fight you in the battleground, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee during a public rally in Barasat, ahead of the fifth phase of Assembly elections on 17th April . In jibe on Gujarat , Mamata remarked, We will not allow Bengal to become Gujarat; Bengal can’t become Gujarat. There is no advantage in stopping me.
