World number six and Serbia’s superstar Novak Djokovic produced a scintillating display of tennis as he lifted his third US Open title after sweeping aside Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina in the finals of the event .
The 31-yr-vintage Serbian survived an epic 2d set before he ran via the third set to clinch a 6-3, 7-6 (four), 6-3 win over Potro inside the summit showdown of the men’s singles event that lasted 3 hours and 15 mins.

“Support of my loved ones [was what got me here]. My kids and own family and support team that has been through this all with me. When I had my surgical procedure this 12 months I should apprehend what Juan Martin went through. But you examine from adversity while you’re down. I tried to take the exceptional out of myself from those moments,” Djokovic addressed the eager media .

With the win, the 31-year-star on his second Grand Slam title of the year and added 14th in his kitty. Djokovic won the Wimbledon 2018 beating big serving Kevin Anderson. The wain came at time when many were saying he was finished with recurring injuries, poor form and lacking motivation.
Swiss maestro Roger Federer has 20 titles , Spaniard Rafael Nadal has 17.
The third championship at the Flushing Meadows put Djokovic in third place overall and on par with legend Pete Sampras at 14 Grand Slam titles.
