Skipper Rishabh Pant led from the front as Lucknow Super Giants in a close contest beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 wickets in a Tata IPL 2026 encounter in Hyderabad . Earlier LSG skipper Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first .
SRH got off to a horror start losing dangerous opening duo of Travis Head ( 7), Abhishek Sharma (0) and Skipper Ishan Kishan ( 1) with the total reeling at 11/3 in 3. 3 overs. LSG seamer Mohammed Shami did the early damage . Liam Livingstone could not last long too fell for 14 . SRH total 26/4 in 7. 1 overs. Shami was oustanding with the ball with 2/9 ( 4 overs) with 17 dot balls. It was an oustanding spell.
However, SRH bounced back with a fine 116 run-partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy with both hitting timely fifties to give SRH some total to bowl at after a batting collapse . Heinrich Klaasen smashed 62 ( 41 balls 5 fours 2 six), Nitish Reddy hit a fine 56 ( 33 balls , 5 fours , 3 sixes), Aniket Verma not out 2 . Harsh Dubey ( 0) , Shivang Kumar ( 5) , Harshal Patel run-out 4. SRH struggled to reach 156/9 in their 20 overs
LSG bowling unit : Mohammed Shami was sensational 2/9 ( 4 overs), Digvesh Singh Rathi 1/46 ( 4 overs), Prince Yadav 2/34 ( 4 overs), Manimaran Siddharth 1/29 ( 4 overs), Avesh Khan 2/36 ( 4 overs)
Chasing a modest target of 157 . LSG were cautipous – Openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh did not give them the flying start . Markram 45 ( 27 balls , 6 fours 2 sixes), Mitchell Marsh 14 ( 12 balls , 2 fours) , Ayush Badoni 12 , Nicholas Pooran . LSG were meaking heavy weather of the chase .
Fortunately for LSG Skipper Rishabh Pant rose to the ocassion and anchored the innings and remained unbeaten on a fine 68 ( 50 balls , 9 fours) and with Mukul Choudhary not out 2 saw LSG home by one ball to spare . It was close contest. LSG reaching 160/5 in 19. 5 overs
