Sunrisers Hyderabad after string of losses came up with fine all- round show to beat five-time winners Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in a Tata IPL 2025 encounter. It was SRH’s first ever win in the IPL at Chepauk . So the jinx was finally broken.
Earlier , SRH Skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first. And SRH bowling from the start was spot on . Which was backed by sharp fielding. CSK never got off the block . CSK opener Shaik Rasheed was dismissed first ball for 0 by Mohammed Shami. And the rest of the batting failed to fire – Ayush Mhatre showed promised in his 19 ball 30 but could not stay on. Sam Curran ( 9), Ravindra Jadeja ( 21), Shivam Dube (12) , Deepak Hooda ( 22), CSK Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni ( 6).
Had not young Dewald Brevis not played an entertaining knock of 42 ( 25 balls , 1 four, 4 sixes). CSK would have struggled to reach even 150. Anshul Kamboj ( 2), Noor Ahmad ( 2) , Khaleel Ahmed not out 1 . CSK were bowled out for 154 / 10 in 19. 5 overs. It was below par total which MSD said post- match.
SRH Bowling : Pat Cummins 2/ 21 ( 4 overs) was superb , Harshal Patel wrecked the CSK batting with 4/ 28 ( 4 overs),Mohammed Shami 1/ 28 ( 3 overs) , Jaidev Unadkat 2/ 21 ( 2.5 overs) , Zeeshan Ansari 0/ 27 ( 3 overs) , Kamindu Mendis 1/ 26 ( 3 overs). The SRH bowling was clinical through out .
In reply ,SRH lost Abhishek Sharma first ball for 0 . Travis Head always in hurry left after scoring 19 ( 16 balls , 4 fours) . ON lean run after ton in first match Ishan Kishan finally stayed on and scored a composed attacking 44 ( 34 balls, 5 fours, 1 six) . Big- hitter Heinrich Klaasen was out for ( 7) . Aniket Verma scored 19 ( 19 balls , 2 sixes) . five wickets gave SRH some hiccups in the modest target chase .
But fortunately calm and composed duo of Kamindu Mendis 32 ( 22 balls , 3 fours) not out who gave fine all- round show and Nitish Reddy not out 19 ( 13 balls, 2 fours) saw SRH home by five- wickets to bring some smile in the team’s dug- out. SRH reaching 155/ 5 in 18. 4 overs)
