Rajasthan Royals held their nerves to register their first win of Tata IPL 2025 as they beat Chennai Super Kings by 6 runs in a close encounter in Guwahati.
Earlier CSK Captain Rituraj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to bowl first . RR desperate for win after two losses got off to a flyer in the power plays straight away . Despite losing out off form opener Yashasvi Jaiswal ( 4) early with total 4/ 1in 0. 3 overs .
Sanju Samson (20) and Nitish Rana gave the innings the momentum as they took RR to 86 /2 in 7. 3 overs when Samson fell.
Nitish Rana played the game changer innings for the RR coming in at Number 3 with some audacious shots. Rana was explosive in his 81 ( 36 balls, 10 fours, 5 sixes) and well supported by local boy Riyan Parag who chipped in with a timely 37 ( 28 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) . RR looked on course for 200 plus total given the start. But lost momentum with regular wickets .
Dhruv Jurel ( 3) , Wanindu Hasaranga ( 4) , Shimron Hetmyer ( 19) wonder why he is batting so low down the order given his batting prowess, Jofra Archer ( 0), Kumar Kartikeya run-out ( 1), Maheesh Theekshana not out 2 , Tushar Despande not out 1 . RR eventually finishing at 182/ 9 in their 20 overs when at one stage they threatened a 210 – 220 total.

IN reply CSK were jolted early with in- from Rachin Ravindra out for( 0) to Jofra Archer. Rahul Tripathi and Skipper Rituraj Gaikwad put the chase on track . Opener Tripathi fell for 23 ( 19 balls , 3 fours, 1 six) with total at 46/ 2 in 7. 1 overs. Shivam Dube after some big shots did not last long out for ( 18) , Vijay Shankar followed soon for (9). regular wickets were hurting CSK .
RR’s Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga did the damage with his impressive four wicket haul. CSK Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad waged alone battle with a fighting 63 ( 44 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) . He was the fifth out at 129 / 5 in 15.5 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja not out 32 ( 22 balls, 2 fours, 1 six) , Mahendra Sigh Dhoni once again late down the order was out for 16 ( 11 balls , 1 four, 1 six) , Jamie Overton not out 11 ( 4 balls , 1 six) were not enough at the end as RR held on well to romp home by 6 runs. CSK could manage 176/ 6 in their 20 overs. It was was CSK’s second loss.
