Mumbai Indians powered by a smashing unbeaten hundred by Suryakumar Yadav beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets in a Tata IPL 2024 encounter at Wankhede stadium. MI took full advantage of yet another batting collapse of the SRH to salvage some pride in their campaign.
Earlier, MI Skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were tentative and unable to break free as they usually did . MI bowlers kept it tight . Trying to force the pace Abhishek Sharma was out for 11 .
Travis Head was not in his fluent best struggled with his timing . He was lucky to survive twice once bowled off a no ball and then had his catch dropped. But he could not take advantage and was out for 48 ( 30 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) .
In the playing XI Mayank Agarwal failed to grab his chance was out for 5 . Nitish Reddy looked got but could manage only 20. Heinrich Klaasen’s poor form continued out for mere 2 . Marco Jansen ( 17) , Shahbaz Ahmed ( 10 ) and when Abdul Samad was out for 3 , SRH total were 136-8, 17 overs .
SRH Skipper Pat Cummins played a lovely invaluable unbeaten cameo to take his team to somewhat fighting total 173/ 8 in their 20 overs. Cummins scoring 35 ( 17 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) . Sanvir Singh was the other not out batsman with 8 runs.
SRH top- order let the team down once again .The area they need to rectify if they want to make the play- offs .
MI bowling figures were : Nuwan Thushara 0/ 42 ( 4 overs), Jasprit Bumrah 1/23 ( 3 overs), debutant Anshul Kamboj 1/ 42 ( 4 overs), Hardik Pandya 3/ 31 ( 4 overs) something to cheer finally. Experienced Piyush Chawla was superb with his leg-spin 3/ 33 ( 4 overs)
Chasing 174, MI in reply lost Ishan Kishan early to Marco Jansen for 9 . Rohit Sharma’s poor form continued as he fell just 4 caught by Heinrich Klaasen off SRH Skipper Pat Cummins . MI 31/2 in 3. 2 overs. Both openers gone. MI slipping further with Naman Dhir out without disturbing the scorers for 0 .
Suryakumar Yadav then took control of the match along with Tilak Varma . SKY was imperious as he smashed a superb hundred an unbeaten one too as well 102 ( 51 balls, 12 fours, 4 sixes) . Tilak Varma gave him admirable support and remained not out on 37 ( 32 balls , 6 fours, 1 six) as MI finished at 174/ 3 in 17. 2 overs and win by 7 wickets .
