Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings came out with solid all- round show and routed Gujarat Titans by a 63 runs in a one- sided Tata IPl2024 encounter at Chennai.
GT Skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first . CSK opening duo of Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Kiwi Rachin Ravindra made their intent clear. Having earned the spotlight for his superb showing in 2023 ICC 50 over World Cup, young Kiwi Rachin Ravindra showed his talent yet again. In place of injured fellow Kiwi Devon Conway, Ravindra has already made his presence felt. He played shots all- round the wicket and hit some stunning shots . Unlucky to miss a 50 Ravindra made 46 ( 20 balls, 6 fours 3 sixes). His skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad also got into the act scoring identical 46 ( 36 balls 5 fours, 1 six). Tall left- hander Shivam Dube powered the CSK innings with blistering 23 ball 51 ( 2 fours, 5 sixes). Daryl Mitchell chipped in 24 off 20 balls . Sameer Rizvi ( 14). Ravindra Jadeja not out 7 saw CSK post an imposing 206/ 6 in their 20 overs. The fans were left disappointed as MSD all padded up did not get a chance to bat.
GT bowlers had a tough outing and figures showed it all : Azmatullah Omarzai 0/ 30 ( 3 overs), Umesh Yadav 0/ 27 ( 2 overs), normally leat expensive Rashid Khan bagged 2/ 49 ( 4 overs), Sai Kishore 1/ 28 ( 3 overs), Spencer Johnson 1/ 35 ( 4 overs), Mohit Sharma 1/ 36 ( 4 overs)
In reply GT struggled . Skipper Shubman Gill again flopped out for 8 . Wriddhiman Saha ( 21). Sai Sudharsan ( 37) , Vijay Shankar ( 12), David Miller ( 21) , Azmatullah Omarzai . The big innings for GT never came from their batsmen as regular wickets dented their chase. Rahul Tewatia ( 6). in poor batting display GT could manage to reach only 143/ 8 in their 20 overs.
CSK Bowlers were on top backed by sharp fielding . Deepak Chahar 2/ 28 ( 4 overs) always consistent with early wicket. Mustafizur Rahman 2/ 30 ( 4 overs) , Tushar Deshpande 2/ 21 ( 4 overs), Ravindra Jadeja 0/ 15 ( 2 overs), Daryl Mitchell 1/ 18 ( 2 overs), Matheesha Pathirana 1/ 29 ( 4 overs)
