Smooth Win : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Led-NDA Wins Floor Test; Gets 129 Votes ; Opposition Walks Out

The newly formed NDA government led by Nitish Kumar in Bihar won the trust vote in the state assembly, amid a walkout by members of the ‘Mahagathbandhan’.

In the 243-strong assembly, a total of 129 members voted in favour of the motion of confidence. Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hazari was in the Chair when the voting took place.

The BJP-JD(U) combine has 128 members in the 243-member Bihar assembly, where the majority mark stands at 122.

The BJP has 78 seats, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United 45 and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha four seats. The remaining seat is held by an Independent MLA. The Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal and ally Congress hold 114 seats.

Earlier, Launching a scathing attack over the announcement of conferring Bharat Ratna to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur (posthumously), former Bihar Deputy CM and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said that the BJP has made Bharat Ratna a deal.

“I am happy that Karpoori Thakur got (Bharat Ratna)…They (BJP) have made Bharat Ratna a deal. Deal with us and we will give you Bharat Ratna,” former Bihar Deputy CM said in Bihar Vidhan Sabha ahead of the floor test of CM Nitish Kumar’s government to prove their majority.

The RJD leader congratulated Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for scripting history by taking oath for the ninth consecutive time. “I stand against this new government. I want to thank CM Nitish Kumar for creating history by taking oath 9 times,” he said.
