#ManipurViolence : Team Of Opposition MP’s Of Alliance INDIA Reach Imphal ; Governor Hopes They Will Help Restore Peace

The team of opposition MP’s of the alliance INDIA reached Imphal to assess the ground situation in ethnic strife-torn Manipur.

The team of opposition MPs will visit several relief camps to meet victims of the ethnic clashes that broke in the northeastern state on May 3.

After their arrival here, the delegation will go to Churachandpur, where fresh violence has taken place, to meet victims from the Kuki community in the relief camps there.

“From Imphal, they will go by a chopper to Churachandpur due to security issues. As only one helicopter is available, the members of the delegation would be divided into two teams, and the chopper will make two trips to ferry them,” a security official told PTI.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, quoted by ANI said “We want the public’s demand to be heard and we are going to represent the demand of the people. We have come to represent the people of Manipur and their concerns”

Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, quoted by ANI said “We have several demands from the Governor, we want to conduct a survey and have discussions among ourselves before taking any call”

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey after visiting a relief centres in Churachandpur, quoted by ANI said , “People are asking when peace will be restored in the state. I am constantly trying that people from both communities should talk to each other to restore peace. We are talking to them and also to all political parties to help in this process.”

“I appeal to them to contribute towards restoring peace in the state,” Manipur Governor on the two-day visit of Opposition MPs of INDIA parties to the state.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant told ANI , “Manipur has been burning for the last 75 days…The atrocities against women & deaths in the state will only tarnish the country’s image. In such a situation the govt should have taken some action…”
