England ODI and T20 skipper Eoin Morgan could not have hoped for better finish. After his side lost the T20 series to India , England fought back to clinch the ODI series by a convincing 8 wickets at Headingley.
In the decider, Eoin Morgan, won the toss and asked India to bat first. And England came out a clinical bowling show to restrict India to a modest 256 for eight in 50 overs.
For India captain Virat Kohli top scored for India with 71 runs. Rohit Sharma had a nightmarish stint scoring 2 off 18 balls. Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 42 off 66 balls, Dinesh Karthik (21), Hardik Pandya (21), Shardul Thakur ( 22) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (21) scored some vital runs towards the end. But it was not enough for England.
For England David Willer and Adil Rashid were the bowling stars. Left-arm seamer Willey took three for 40 in his nine overs while leg-spinner Rashid three for 49 including the priozed scalp of Virat Kohli.
In reply, England overhauled the target in just 44.3 overs with Joe Root unbeaten on 100 and skipper Eoin Morgan 88 not out. The duo put on a superb 186 run stand . James Vice was run out for 27 while , while Jonny Bairstow scored a quick fire 30 off 13 balls. Indian bowlers were in- effective.
Hardik Pandya, Bhuvbneshwar Kumar failed to bowl the right length and were punished with flurry of boundaries. The Spin dup of Yuzvendra Chahal and Luldeep Yadav to failed to fire. Rounding off a disappointing end for India. It was India’s bilateral series loss under Virat Kohli.
