#CWC23: Red Hot Pace Trio Of Shami, Siraj, Bumrah Star In India’s Demolition Of Sri Lanka By 302 Runs To Reach Semi-Finals

Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss and bowled first. India were rocked early Skipper Rohit Sharma was bowled for 4 in the second ball by Dilshan Madushanka by beauty . But Sri Lanka hopes of another wicket soon did not happen. Dropped catches of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli piled on their agony.

Gill and Virat took full advantage and featured in a189 run stand . Gill missed his hundred 92 ( 92 balls, 11 fours 2 sixes) and Virat Kohli narrowly missed equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49th ODI hundred. Virat scored 88 ( 94 balls , 11 fours) . With place under scrutiny Shreyas Iyer displayed his talent with a quick attacking 82 ( 56 balls , 3 fours, 6 sixes) . K L Rahul ( 12), Suryakumar Yadav ( 12 ) missed out . Ravindra Jadeja got time in the middle and scored 35 . India finishing at imposing 357/ 8 in their 50 overs.

Si Lanka bowling took a hammering . Dilshan Madushanka bowled his heart out and bagged 5/ 80 ( 10 overs) , Dushmantha Chameera 1/ 71 ( 10 overs), Kasun Rajitha 0/ 66 ( 9 overs), Angelo Mathews 0/ 11 ( 3 overs) surprised he was not bowled for more . Maheesh Theekshana below par 0/ 67 ( 9 overs), Dushan Hemantha 0/ 52 ( 8 overs)

Sri Lanka’s chase got off to an awful start. Jasprit Bumrah struck with the first delivery before Siraj picked up the next three wickets to reduce them to four for three runs.

Shami bagged a five-wicket haul to ensure that India’s juggernaut rolled on. Shami finished with 5/18 while Siraj took 3/16 as Sri Lanka were bundled out for 55 in 19.4 overs, their lowest total in a 50-over World Cup. Only Angelo Mathews ( 12) , Maheesh Theekshana not out 12 , Kasun Rajitha ( 14 ) reached double figures in embarrassing batting show .
