Prime Minister Narendra Modi left no stone unturned in celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

But his own party leader has rather different view on him. Former Union minister and BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde created a furore and attacked Mahatma Gandhi and called the freedom struggle led by him a “drama”.

Hegde also questioned as to how “such people” come to be called ‘Mahatma’ in India.

While addressing a public event in Bengaluru the Lok Sabha MP from Uttara Kannada said the entire freedom movement was “staged with the consent and support of the British”.

Left red faced BJP and a damage control , the party’s top leadership is too unhappy with Anant Hegde’s statement on Gandhiji, he has been asked to issue an unconditional apology.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress media cell chief,  lashed out at Hegde for Mahatma Gandhi comments and wants  Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against him.
