Standing by their 2019 Election promise to remove Article 270 if voted to power the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done just that.
After a crucial cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah in parliament announced that government has decided to revoke Article 370.

Shah moved a resolution revoking Article 370 from J&K in the Rajya Sabha. He told the Upper House: I am ready for all discussions by the leader of the Opposition, the entire opposition and the members of the ruling party over Kashmir issue. I am ready to answer all questions.
The government has also decided to bifurcate the state into two Union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, which will have a legislature, and Ladakh, which will be without a legislature.
