Global Experts and Media Professionals Engage at KC College’s XII International Media Summit

The Department of Mass Media at Kishinchand Chellaram College successfully hosted its XII International Media Summit on February 13 and 14. The two-day summit brought together media professionals, academicians, and students to engage in in-depth discussions on how credibility, technology, ethics, and narrative power are reshaping journalism and strategic communication in an increasingly polarised media environment.

The summit featured insights from experts across diverse domains. RJ Jeeturaj from Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM inspired students during his session AI – The Future Dinosaur, urging them to step beyond creative comfort zones, explore new pathways, and trust their creative instincts. He positioned artificial intelligence not as a threat, but as a tool that when used judiciously, can enhance creativity.

Senior journalist Sanjay Singh highlighted the growing influence of narrative drafting in media, noting that chaos is sometimes deliberately created to dilute news. He cautioned that while truth moves slowly, perception travels fast, and misinformation spreads the fastest, often eroding years of credibility.

Rahul Maheshwari, Economic Affairs Advisor at the Netherlands Consulate General, stressed the importance of relevance in media content and urged communicators to understand the economic dimensions of what they produce. Strategic communication consultant Dr. Ruta Vyas spoke on the concept of “win–win communication,” emphasizing collaborative dialogue as the cornerstone of sustainable success.

Addressing crisis communication, Heeta Parikh, Founder of Silver Spun Brand Solutions, stated that a brand’s reputation is its most fragile asset, and that effective communication is crucial to safeguarding it during times of crisis.

Offering an international perspective, Dr.Nancy Snow discussed issues of bias, anonymity, and ethical challenges in journalism, while Dr.Elizabeth Lubinga underscored the role of communication in empowering marginalized communities and advancing environmental awareness.

Industry sessions were further enriched by cinematographer Swapna Pataskar, who shared her professional journey, spoke about the evolution of cameras, the growing relevance of vertical formats for digital platforms, and showcased her projects. She also presented clips from India’s first AI-generated film, slated for public release soon. Industry insights were additionally shared by Amita Balchandra, Ameya Karve, and Aditi Kamat.

The academic segment of the summit featured 13 research paper presentations on media ethics, digital communication, public policy, and related areas, reinforcing the balance between academic rigor and industry relevance.

The summit received continued guidance and encouragement from Colonel Dr. Prof. Hemlata Bagla, Vice Chancellor of HSNC University. Strong institutional support was also extended by Prof. Tejashree Shanbhag, Principal, KC College, and Prof. Shalini R. Sinha, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Mass Media. The event was successfully convened under the leadership of Dr. Vidhi Agrawal and Ms. Sneha Subhedar, along with the dedicated efforts of the Mass Media faculty.

The XII International Media Summit stood out as a dynamic platform for critical dialogue, global perspectives, and meaningful engagement with the evolving media ecosystem
