Kolkata Knight Riders recovered from initial jitters to successfully chase down a modest 124-run target against Punjab Kings in 16.4 overs in an IPL match. The win took KKR ended KKR’s four match losing streak and enabled them to claim fifth position in the points table while Punjab slumped to sixth.
For Punjab, opener Mayank Agarwal top-scored with a painstaking 31 off 34 balls but Chris Jordan”s 30 off 18 balls took them past 120-run mark.
Prasidh Krishna has best figures of 3 for 30 while Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine also chipped in withy key wickets each. Shivam Mavi took the big wicket of Chris Gayle ( 0) . Overall KKR bowlers choked Punjab batsmen.
While chasing, KKR were in trouble at 17 for 3 with Nitish Rana ( 0), Shubman Gill ( 9) and Sunil Narine ( 0 ) departing early. Andre Russell was run- out for (9).
But Rahul Tripathi (41 off 32 balls) and skipper Eoin Morgan finally getting back to form with the bat (47 not out off 40 balls) put them on course with a 66-run fourth wicket stand. Dinesh Karthik 12 not out with two fours ensured KKR won by 20 balls to spare scoring 126/5 in 16.4 overs
