Mumbai Indians nightmare at Tata IPL 2023 continues as they once again tasted defeat. This time the five- time champions were outclassed by four-time winners Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in their encounter at Wankhede Stadium.
Earlier CSK Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl first . Mumbai Indians Skipper Rohit Sharma promised big scoring 13 ball 21 but could not carry on. Ishan Kishan ( 32). Much talked about signing Cameron Green scored ( 12 ) , Suryakumar Yadav ( 1). Tilak Varma ( 22). Tim David ( 31 ) Mumba Indians top guns simply did not go on to get a big one . The team finished at a below par 157/ 8 in their 20 overs. CSK bowlers kept them in check by regular wickets .
CSK bowling figures were : Deepak Chahar 0/ 10 ( 1 over) left after yet another injury. Tushar Deshpande 2/ 31 ( 3 overs) , Sisanda Magala 1/ 37 ( 4 overs) , Mitchell Santner 2/ 28 ( 4 overs) was superb again. Ravindra Jadeja did the star turn with 3/ 20 ( 4 overs) , Dwaine Pretorius 0/ 28 ( 4 overs)
In reply CSK lost Kiwi Devon Conway early for 0. But it was Ajinkya Rahane who took the spotlight with the fastest half century of Tata IPL 2023 in just 19 balls. Denied central contract by the BCCI the 34 – year -old showed he had plenty of cricket left in him . Rahane smashed a brilliant match – winning 61 ( 27 balls , 7 fours three sixes) . Shivam Dube ( 26) . The impressive Ruturaj Gaikwad not out 40 (36 balls ) and Ambati Rayudu not out 20 saw CSK home with plenty of balls to spare reaching 159/ 3 in 18. 1 overs
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma will have lot of planning to do to halt the team’s slide . That too after it finished last in Tata IPL 2022. Two losses already now are ominous signs. Tame to wake up.
