In the much awaited clash between the two new teams in this year’s Tata IPL2022 it was the Gujarat Titans who prevailed against Lucknow Super Giants in their clash at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai by five wickets .
Put into bat by Titans Skipper Hardik Pandya , The Lucknow Super Giants got off to a miserable start . The side was reeling at 29 / 4 with Skipper K L Rahul ( 0), Quinton De Kock ( 7) Evin Lewis ( 10) , Manish Pandey ( 6) . But thanks to a brilliant 55 by Deepak Hooda off 41 balls, 6 fours and two sixes and his superb stand with Ayush Badoni 54 ( 41 balls, 4 fours and three sixes), Krunal Pandya 21 off 13 balls , the Lucknow team managed to reach a fighting 158/ 6 in their 20 overs.
For the titans , Mohammed Shami was oustanding with ball with figures of 3/25 ( 4 overs) Varun Aaron was expensive 2/ 45 (4 overs) , Lockie Ferguson 0/24 ( 4 overs) , Hardik Pandya 0/ 37 ( 4 overs) , Rashid Khan 1/ 27 ( 4 overs)
In reply The Titans , got off to a shaky start with Shubman Gill ( 0) and Vijay Shankar ( 4) out cheaply . But Aussie Matthew Wade ( 30 , 29 balls four fours ) and Skipper Hardik Pandya ( 33, five fours , 1 six ) put the chase back on track . Hardik fell to the bowling of his brother Krunal Pandya. South African David Miller chipped in with a quick 21 ball 30 . But it was the finisher Rahul Tewatia who took the Titans home with his brilliant cameo an unbeaten 24 ball 40 with five fours and two sixes. He was supported by Abhinav Manohar who remained unbeaten on 7 ball 15 with three fours . Titans finishing at 161/ 5 in 19. 4 overs.

For Lucknow, Sri Lankan Dushmantha Chameera was impressive with 2/ 22 ( 3 overs) , Krunal Pandya 1/ 17 ( 4 overs) , Avesh Khan went for runs 1/ 33 ( 3. 4 overs) Ravi Bishnoi 0/ 34 ( 4 overs) Mohsin Khan 0/ 18 ( 2 overs) , Deepak Hooda 1/ 31 ( 3 overs)
The loss was bitter for KL Rahul , Lucknow skipper who last year when he led Punjab kings had to witness many close losses like this one.
