Delhi Capitals hung on and snatched a sensational win over Rajasthan Royals by a Super over in a thrilling Tata IPL 2025 encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium , New Delhi.
Earlier , RR Skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bowl first . DC lost opener Jake Fraser-McGurk early for ( 9) and previous match star Karun Nair was unfortunately run-out for 0. Abhishek Porel 46 ( 37 balls, 5 fours, 1 six) and K L Rahul 38 ( 32 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) put DC on track after early jitters. However both did not carry on .
Fortunately for DC Skipper Axar Patel played a timely cameo 34 ( 14 balls , 4 fours, 2 sixes) . Tristan Stubbs followed Axar’s good work with an unbeaten 38 ( 18 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) , Ashutosh Sharma not out 15 ( 11 balls, 2 fours) added vital runs which proved so crucial at the end . Delhi Capitals finishing at 188/ 5 in the 20 overs.
RR Bowling : Jofra Archer 2/ 32 ( 4 overs) , Tushar Deshpande struggled with his line and length 0/ 38 ( 3 overs), Sandeep Sharma 0/ 33 ( 4 overs) . The two Sri Lankan spinners were a let down again in the middle overs for RR Maheesh Theekshana 1/ 40 ( 4 overs), Wanindu Hasaranga 1/ 38 ( 4 overs) conceding 78 runs. The duo’s form has been a worry for RR. Riyan Parag 0/ 6 ( 1 over)
Chasing 189, RR were off to a confident start with openers – Yashasvi Jaiswal and Skipper Sanju Samson . The foundation were laid for the chase . Unfortunately Samson had to retire hurt for 31 ( 19 balls , 2 fours, 3 sixes) , Riyan Parag failed again for 8 ( 11 balls).
Jaiswal 51 ( 37 balls , 3 fours , 4 sixes) and along with aggressive Nitish Rana 51 ( 28 balls , 6 fours, 2 sixes) . RR were in control it seemed . But after Rana and Jaiswal exit, RR struggled to keep the pace . Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer tried hard bit could not get the RR over the line in regulation over time.
Mitchell Starc used all his vast experience and bowled a fantastic final over defending 9 run as RR could manage 188/ 4 in their 20 overs. The match moved to Super over.

Batting first in Super Over RR could manage 11 runs bowled by Mitchell Starc . To the shock of many including commentator Shane Watson who termed it brain fade moment RR sent Riyan Parag with Shimron Hetmyer to bat . Watson was shaking his head disbelief as to why Nitish Rana who scored 28 ball 51 was not sent and Parag instead.
Needing 12 , DC romped home with K L Rahul who hit a a four and took a single. While Tristan Stubbs wasted no time and smashed the winning six off Sandeep Sharma to clinch the match.
Sandeep Sharma ahead of Jofra Archer surprised all. DC winning at the end . RR have only themselves to blame for the loss. A match which RR should have won.
