Delhi Capitals warded off a fantastic fightback by Gujarat Titans to clinch a stunning 4 run win in a high scoring Tata IPL 2024 encounter at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
Earlier, GT Skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first . And his bowlers did a good job early early on taking quick wickets. Prithvi Shaw was out for 11 . Hard- hitting Jake Fraser-McGurk 23 ( 14 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) . Shai Hope was dismissed for 6 . DC tottering at 44-3, 5.4 overs.
Then came the partnership between Axar Patel and Skipper Rishabh Pant which lifted DC superbly . The duo were superb and took away the initiative from GT . Axar Patel ever improving as an all- rounder both for DC and India scored a attacking innings of 66 ( 43 balls , 5 fours , 4 sixes) .
Then it was Rishabh Pant who took over. And Pant showed his old power self and nearly his best with stupendous power packed 88 ( 43 balls , 5 fours, 8 sixes) and remained not out . He was supported at the end by brilliant cameo by Tristan Stubbs 26 ( 7 balls , 3 fours 2 sixes) who too remained not out. The duo ensured strong DC finish at 224/ 4 in their 20 overs.
GT bowling fell apart towards the end . Azmatullah Omarzai 0/ 33 ( 4 overs), Sandeep Warrier 3/ 15 ( 3 overs), Rashid Khan 0/ 35 ( 4 overs), Noor Ahmad 1/ 36 ( 3 overs), Mohit Sharma was hammered all over 0/ 73 ( 4 overs), Shahrukh Khan 0/ 8 ( 1 over), Sai Kishore 0/ 22 ( 1 over)
In reply GT , They lost Skipper Shubman Gill out early for 6 . Wriddhiman Saha kept the chase on course with 39 ( 25 balls , 5 fours, 1 six) . He was aided well by Sai Sudharsan 65 ( 39 balls , 7 fours, 2 sixes) . Azmatullah Omarzai was out for 1 . Big hitting David Miller came good with a fine a blazing 55 ( 23 balls , 6 fours, 3 sixes). GT would have hoped Miller stayed on further. His exit gave DC the breather. Shahrukh Khan fell for ( 8) . Finisher Rahul Tewatia out for 4. GT hopes were faltering.
Gritty Rashid Khan cameo almost pulled off a sensational win as he remained not out 21 ( 11 balls, 3 fours, 1 six) . GT fell agonisingly short by mere four runs . Sai Kishore 13 ( 6 balls 2 sixes) gave DC the scare too. But Rashid did not have the support at the end . GT finishing at 220/ 8 in their 20 overs.
