Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Sex Scandal : Nitish Express Anguish, Tejashwi To Stage Dharna

Finally breaking his long silence on the Muzaffarpur shelter home sex scandal, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed anguish over the issue. His government has been facing the heat ever sionce the scandal hit the headlines and caused nationwide outrage. Kumar and stressed on the need to develop institutional mechanisms to prevent such incidents from recurring.

 

Speaking at the launch of ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana’, a scheme for welfare of girls, in Patna, Kumar said the alleged sex abuse of girls at the shelter home “has left us with a sense of shame and guilt”.

“We have always said that the guilty would not be spared and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi has said on the floor of the assembly that we would ourselves like the Central Bureau of Investigation probe to be monitored by the high court,” he said in his first reaction since the scandal broke last month.

The chief minister said he has asked the state chief secretary to develop institutional mechanisms in consultation with the departments concerned to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Meanwhile , Nitish is facing the heat from political rivals over the issue as well. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has announced that he will stage a demonstration at the national capital to protest against “heinous institutional mass rape in Muzaffarpur”.

Yadav, who is the leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, urged “all to attend” the dharna at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, 4 August. “Against heinous institutional mass rape in Muzaffarpur sponsored and protected by Nitish government, we will stage a dharna on Saturday, 4 August at Jantar Mantar.
