The Australian ball tampering scandal in South Africa has had an effect on the forthcoming PL 2018. After Steve Smith stepped down as Rajasthan Royals skipper to be replaced by India’s Test vice- captain Ajinkya Rahane, the Sunrisers Hyderabad too have appointed New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson as their captain replacing David Warner.
Warner had stepped down from his post following his role in the ball-tampering scandal. He had led the SRH to a title win in 2016 and helped them to a top-four finish in 2017. Warner was also team’s leading run-scorer in both seasons of IPL.
Talking about his appointment, Williamson said that he is looking forward to play with a talented group of players. “I’ve accepted the role to stand in as captain for this season. It’s an exciting opportunity with a talented group of players. I look forward to the challenge ahead,” he added.
Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be the deputy of the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
