In a new dawn for Odisha , Bharatiya Janata Party’s tribal leader Mohan Charan Majhi will be the new chief minister , Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced in Bhubaneswar reported PTI .
KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida were made deputy chief ministers of the state, Singh said. The Keonjhar MLA was selected for the top post at the BJP legislature party meeting in Bhubaneswar.
Apart from Singh, Union minister Bhupender Yadav attended the meeting as observer.
Odisha Deputy CM-designate Pravati Parida told ANI , “I thank my PM Narendra Modi. The assurance that he had given to the people of Odisha – Modi ki Guarantee – for good governance, for welfare of the poor, for the Odia pride — people of Odisha trusted the PM and brought BJP to power. All of us express our gratitude that with the blessings of Lord Jagannath BJP has come to power today. After the swearing-in ceremony tomorrow, we will begin working on the promises by the PM. Together we will work for the 4.5 crore Odia people…”
Mohan Charan Majhi, 52, defeated Mina Majhi of the Biju Janata Dal by 11,577 votes from the Keonjhar assembly constituency.
The chief whip of the BJP in the previous assembly, he was elected to the assembly for the fourth time.
On BJP MLA Mohan Charan Majhi being elected as the new Chief Minister of Odisha, his son Premananda Majhi told ANI , “We are happy. We are speechless… we are so happy that we are unable to say anything… we had a 50 per cent feeling that he (Mohan Charan Majhi) would become the Chief Minister…”
