The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Centre and others on a plea seeking action against those who allegedly made hate speeches during events in Haridwar and Delhi. Notices were issued to Uttarakhand too and reply has been sought in 10 days.

The bench hearing the plea comprises Chief Justice N V Ramana and justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli. The court permits petitioners to give representation to local authority against holding of future Dharam Sansad.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioners, requested the bench to read the transcript of the inflammatory speeches made during the Haridwar conclave.

“Its happening in states where the process of elections is going on. No arrests have happened, country’s atmosphere will be vitiated, its contrary to what this Republic stands for, ethos & values we cherish, it is incitement of violence,” he said.

Earlier, in a report by PTI, Sibal  had made an oral mentioning of the petition before the Bench . “We are living in different times where slogans in the country have changed from Satyamev Jayate to Shashtramev Jayate,” he stated.

The hate speeches were allegedly delivered between December 17 and 19, 2021, in Haridwar by Yati Narsinghanand and in Delhi by ‘Hindu Yuva Vahini’. The petition has sought an independent, credible and impartial probe by a special investigation team into the hate speeches against the Muslim community.
