England powered their way to the number one rankings in T20I as they completed a thumping 4-0 whitewash of India by beating them in the fifth T20I by 56 runs . This after India Skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl in hot sultry conditions .
India were lucky to get dangerous Pahil Salt early for 6 at the total of 8 off Prasidh Krishna. Then it was carnage . After having low series seasoned Jos Buttler bounced back to spectacular form to smash his career best ton. Buttler started slow then exploded to score a brilliant 131 ( 64 balls , 12 frours, 8 sixes). The innings of Buttler saw audacious shots and daring innovation and he showed why he is one of the most feared batsmen in world cricket. England Skipper Harry Brook continued his impressive form ( dropped twice) Brook was aggressive as he raced to his 50 in just 19 balls . Brook used his long arm and power to great effect.
Buttler and Brook then etched their place in history of T20I by featuring in a scintillating 233- run partnership off just 102 balls for the second wicket. Brook was superb and stayed till the end much to the misery of the Indian bowlers with a stunning 95 not out ( 45 balls , 4 fours, 8 sixes), Jacob Bethel was out for 0 and Will Jacks was not out 7. England finishing with a daunting 257/3 in their 20 overs.
Indian Bowlers were a let down and not helping their cause were some atrocious fielding – dropped catches. The figures say it all – Arshdeep Singh 0/33 ( 4 overs), Axar Patel 0/63 ( 4 overs), Prasidh Krishna 1/38 ( 4 overs), Prince Yadav 0/60 ( 4 overs), Suryansh Shedge 0/39 ( 3 overs), Shivam Dube 2/22( 1 over)
Chasing 258 to win was never going to be easy. Young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was earlier dropped by the team management and Sanju Samson returned to open with Abhishek Sharma. Samson did show the intent scoring 27 ( 14 balls 3 fours 2 sixes). India would have loved to see him carry on but it was not to be. Abhishek Sharma out cheaply for 3 . After series of poor scores Ishan Kishan found his form scoring 56 ( 35 balls , 7 fours 2 sixes). Skipper Shreyas Iyer was out for 28, Shivam Dube 14 .
Deputy Tilak Varma battling poor form managed to score a fifty 53 ( 25 balls , 3 fours 4 sixes), Suryansh Shedge 7 Axar Patel 3 , Arshdeep Singh not out 4, Prasidh Krishna not out 1 as India finished at 201/8 in their 20 overs.
