After clinching the T20I series 2-1, team India kept the winning momentum in the ODI’s . The men in Blue began the three- match ODI series in style winning the first one by a thumping 10 wickets at the Oval .
India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first . And his bowlers responded magnificently . In-fact the bowlers literally ran through the England batting line- up. The scorecard told a sorry tale . Jason Roy ( 0) , In-form in Tests Jonny Bairstow managed ( 7), Joe Root ( 0), Ben Stokes ( 0), Skipper Jos Buller ( 30), Liam Livingstone ( 0) , Moeen Ali ( 14 ), David Willey ( 21), Craig Overton ( 8), bRydon Carse ( 15) . England were bowled out for hugely embarrassing 110/ 10 in 25. 2 overs.
Indian bowlers were superb with Jasprit Bumrah the wrecker in chief with sensational figures of 6/ 19 in 7.2 overs. It was Bumrah’s second five wicket haul in ODI’s. He was supported well by accurate Mohammed Shami 3/ 31 ( 7 overs), Prasidh Krishna 1/ 26 ( 5 overs), Hardik Pandya 0/22 ( 4 overs) , Yuzvendra Chahal 0/ 10 ( 2 overs).
India in were never bothered at all. This England target was way below par. The only only question was how quickly will India wrap this up Openers Skipper Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan took their own time while chasing. England bowlers did not have target to threaten India and it showed. Playing his 150 match Shikhar Dhawan remained not out on 34 off 54 balls with four fours. Rohit on the other hand with enough time batted his way back to some form and confidence with a stroke filled unbeaten 76 . His 58 ball innings was studded with 7 fours and five sixes. India reaching 114/ 0 in 18. 4 overs. The duo also achieved a record by scoring 5000 runs as a pair. The pair of Dhawan and Rohit reached the milestone in 112 appearances together for India. They average 45.81 and their run tally includes 17 centuries and 15 half-century .
