#DelhiBattle : Will BJP’s No-Holds-Barred Aggressive Campaign Against AAP Finally Pay Off?

Picture :ANI /X

BJP viewers has come out all guns blazing in it’s aim to dislodge the AAP government in Delhi . It has in- fact left no stone unturned to decimate the AAP . And going by the campaign and crowds at the rallies addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , Amit Shah and others the goal is simple – AAPDA be replaced by BJP .

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have already exuded confidence that come February 8th a BJP government would be formed in Delhi. Rajnath Singh has predicted 2/ 3 rd majority  . BJP had launched a fiercest attack on AAP on host of issues – Yamuna cleaning, Air pollution, delay in several projects , corruption, the Liquor policy scam, Sheesh Mahal ( residence of Arvind Kejriwal) among others. BJP has vowed in it’s manifesto to take strict action against corruption and form SIT to probe all scams of the AAP government.

And much before elections BJP  had astutely  empowered the LG  to check-mate the Arvind Kejriwal government. And arrests of several leaders  – Arvind Kejriwal ( replaced by Atishi as Chief Minister) , Satyender Jain, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh by ED on the Liquor scam case meant that BJP going all-out to finish the party.  Just like it did with brazen audacity the two parties in Maharshtra – Shiv Sena and The NCP .

Yes, the Modi government’s fight against corruption is laudable but on the hindsight critics would argue that corruption is issue only when it comes to opposition parties only. The likes Of NCP leaders – Ajit Pawar ( Irrigation Scam) , Praful Patel ( Messing up Air India) , Chhagan Bhujbal and former Congress leader Ashok Chavan  ( Adarsh Scam) and not to forget Suvendu Adhikari ( Narada Tapes ), And Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandra babu Naidu( spent 53 days in  Jail In Skill Development scam case)   had serious corruption allegations and faced ED heat .

But by joining or aligning with the BJP meant their cases were brushed under the carpet and put in cold storage. These actions meant BJP developed a perception in the yes of the public of a washing machine party. And Godi media too did not have the courage or spine to ask the government on these cases of these mentioned leaders. The so called Hard Facts -, Nation’s sharpest Opinion  very astutely  pressed the mute button.

Not only on corruption BJP’s dynast jibe was too rebuffed smartly.   Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in an interview right pointed out the hypocrisy of the BJP . Omar said BJP’s criticism of dynasty politics is simply political hypocrisy. “The BJP only seems to oppose political dynasties when it’s convenient. They have no issues with dynastic politics among their allies,” he said.

“I don’t need to point out the number of dynastic allies that the BJP has or has had in the past or will have in the future. So, I have always maintained that the BJP doesn’t have a problem with political families. They have a problem with political families that are opposed to the BJP,” he reportedly said. From the BJP’s vantage, he said, politicians are neither dynasts nor corrupt once “you are an ally of the BJP.”

BJP, which has retained all seven city seats ( Lok Sabha 2024) , Modi government at the Centre for the past 10 years, has been unable to form a government in the capital. It has made the BJP frustrated . So 2025 is battle for prestige. Another loss hypothetically would be loss of face.

There is uneasiness and in the BJP as far as Delhi is concerned . It may be recalled , Sahib Singh Verma was the last prominent BJP face, who went on to become the chief minister of the NCT of Delhi way back in 1996. He served as the CM for two-and-a-half years before an unprecedented onion price crisis ousted Verma from the post, to be replaced by Sushma Swaraj.

Swaraj served as the city chief minister for 52 days before the assembly elections were announced. And, since December 3, 1998, the BJP has remained unsuccessful to form a government in Delhi. Sushma’s daughter Bansuri is a Lok Sabha MP from New Delhi .

In 2020 Delhi polls viewers , BJP had in a desperate bid for power used seasoned leaders like Dr Harsh Vardhan in 2013, Kiran Bedi in 2015 and Manoj Tewari in 2019 and all were disasters. As many 200 plus MP’s , 70 ministers and 11 Chief Ministers of the BJP campaigned during the 2020 Delhi assembly polls yet the result was a disaster. In 2025, BJP has not yet declared who will be their Chief Minister , BJP Chief J P Nadda in an interview said no need of CM face we have Modi . Will this bravado succeed? Time will tell.

So, Will the lotus finally bloom on February 8th in Delhi and the high octane campaign finally pay off. It remains to be seen ?.
