India once again came out with a clinical display to thrash England by 100 runs in CWC23 encounter in Lucknow . For India the win was sixth in a row and stay remain unbeaten in the tournament so far. How long they sustain the winning run remains to be seen. However for England it was their fifth embarrassing defeat in six matches as a result they find themselves placed at the bottom of the points table .
Earlier, Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to bowl which not many commentators were convinced of the move . The Buttler move appeared to have paid off as India were rocked by early wickets – Shubman Gill ( 9), Virat Kohli mistimed shot ( 0), Shreyas Iyer (4) . Despite wickets falling wound him Skipper Rohit Sharma played a Skipper’s knock anchoring the innings with a superb 87 ( 101 balls, 10 fours 3 sixes) . Rohit was a treat to watch . Unfortunately he missed a well deserved 100 by 13 runs . K L Rahul played well for ( 39) . Suryakumar Yadav made amends for his run-out in previous game with a a fluent 49 ( 47 balls, 4 fours 1 six), Ravindra Jadeja fell for ( 8). Mohammed Shami ( 1), Jasprit Bumrah not out 16, Kuldeep Yadav not out 9 as India finished a below par 229/9 in their 50 overs
England did well to restrict India with bowlers and fielders complimenting each other well . The English bowling figures were : David Willey 3/ 45 ( 10 overs), Chris Woakes 2/ 33 ( 9 overs), Adil Rashid 2/ 35 ( 10 overs), Moeen Ali 0/ 37 ( 8 overs), Mark Wood 1/ 46 ( 9 overs), Liam Livingstone 0/29 ( 4 overs). The onus was on English batsmen to chase it down
England in reply began well . Racing to 30 in 4.5 overs . But the batting collapsed soon after dramatically . Dawid Malan ( 16. Jonny Bairstow ( 14) fell early . Then nightmare with Joe Root (0), Ben Stokes ( 0). Woefully out of touch Skipper Jos Buttler out for ( 10). England were 5 down for 51 in 15. 1 overs. Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah ripped through the English batting line- up . Moeen Ali ( 15), Liam Livingstone ( 27), Chris Woakes ( 10), David Willey not out 16. Adil Rashid ( 13 < Mark Wood ( 0) saw England crash to humiliating 129 all-out in 34. 5 overs. It was pathetic batting display from the defending Champions
