Britain’s new Prime Minister Boris Johnson is at work straight away after becoming the new Prime Minister. And has begun introducing his new team . And among the new faces is the appointment of Indian origin Priti Patel as the new Home Secretary .
Priti has been Secretary of State for the Home Department since 24 July 2019 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Witham in Essex since 2010. She was previously International Development Secretary from 2016 to 2017.
Patel was born in London to a Ugandan Indian family. She was educated at Keele University and the University of Essex. She was initially involved with the Referendum Party before switching allegiance to the Conservatives
Patel described the job of home secretary as a “great honour”, which comes with “significant responsibilities”.
“I will do everything in my power to keep our country safe, our people secure, and also to fight the scourge of crime that we see on our streets. I look forward to the challenges that now lie ahead,” she said.
