In a match marred by frequent rain interruptions as many as four to be precise , It was Australia which came out on top as they beat India by 7 wickets by D/L method in the first match of the three- match ODI series at Perth’s imposing Optus stadium.
Aussie Skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first. Shubman Gill made his debut as ODI Skipper replacing Rohit Sharam. While two legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohil were back in India India colours after several months added curiosity to the Indian team’s showing.
India innings however got off to horror star as the much awaited comebacks of greats Rohit Shartma and Virat Kohli proved to be a damp squib as they both fell for 8 and 0 respectively thus shocking the ardent fans. Not easy to bat after long- lay off was clearly visible in their stint in the middle , Skipper Gill did not last long out for just 10. India were tottering at 25 /3.

Shreyas Iyer too was out cheaply for 11. K L Rahul showed some grit as he scored a vital 38. Axar Patel threw his bat around for 31. Washington Sundar 10, Nitish Reddy 19 not out saw India limp to 136-9 from 26 overs, setting Australia a revised target of 131.
Aussie bowling was sharp on bouncy wicket as Josh Hazlewood was at his usual line and length rhythm with 2/20 ( 7 overs), Mitchell Starc was apt suppert with 1/22( 6 overs) , Spinner Matthew Kuhnemann impressed with 2/26 ( 4 overs), Nathan Ellis 1/29 ( 5 overs) , debutant Mitchell Owen 2/20( 3 overs), Matthew Short o/17( 1 over)
In reply Australia were staedy, Skipper Mitchell Marsh opened the innings and remained unbeaten with a fine unbeaten 46. It was iunnings of brute force with some majestic sixes . Travis Head Matthew Short were out for 8 each.

Wicket- Keeper Josh Philippe getting the opportunity in place of regulars- Josh Inglis and Alex Carey impressed with a 29 ball 37 besides taking fine catches behind the stumps. Debutant Matt Renshaw chipped in with and unbeaten 21 off 24 balls as Australia raced to the revised target of 131 ( D/Lmethod) in 21. 1 overs. Australia reaching 131/3 in 21. 2 overs.
India bowling saw Arshdeep Singh impressing with his ability to move the ball 1/31 ( 5 overs). Rest had an ordinbary game. Mohammed Siraj 0/21( 4 overs), Axar Patel 1/19 ( 40vers) was tight, Harshit Rana 0/27 ( 4 overs), Nitish Reddy 0/16 ( 2.1 overs), Washington Sundar 1/14 ( 2 overs).
Both teams now head to Adeliade Oval On October 23 for the second ODI. Australia with the 1-0 lead and India as usual all eyes will be on Ro- Ko after Perth letdown.
