Gourami Celebrates Durga Pujo With A Limited-Edition Bengali Festive Thali

Durga Pujo Festive Thali at Gourami, Powai

For Gourami, every region of India has a story worth serving, and a plate worth putting on the table. Following its celebrations of Onam and its ongoing exploration of Southern India’s regional culinary traditions, Gourami turns its attention to East India this festive season with a special Durga Pujo Thali, available exclusively on October 17th and 18th, for lunch and dinner.
Guests experience Bengal’s fragrance from the first sip with an exclusive Gondhoraj Lemon Soda welcome drink, made with the authentic Gondhoraj lemon, known as the “king of fragrance”. The starters follow, with guests served the Beguni Chop– Bengal’s beloved brinjal fritter, known as the “crunch of Kolkata”, and the Chenna Pakoda– a delicate fritter of fresh cottage cheese; Macher Chop– the iconic Bengali fish croquette, known as the “pride of the Bengali snack table”, and the Gondhoraj Chicken Fry.

The main course showcases the range of Bengali home cooking, with dishes that are far from everyday fare. Guests are served the Cholar Dal which is the soul of the Luchi plate, the Aloor Dum, the comforting potato curry that Bengal pairs with every festive meal, and the Panchmishali Torkari, a “medley of five vegetables” from the Bengali home kitchen. The Paneer Paturi steamed in banana leaf, and a platter of Begun, Potol and Aloo Bhaja, the “golden trio of the Bengali thali”, complete the spread.

Non-vegetarians can relish delicacies like the Bhetki Paturi- Bengal’s most prized fish, steamed in banana leaf, the Kosha Mangsho- a slow-cooked classic known as the “Sunday and festive-day favourite of Bengal”, and the Chingri Macher Malai, known as the “royalty of Bengali seafood”. These are paired with Luchi, (the puffed, golden festive bread of Bengal), alongside Ghee Bhaat, Bhoger Khichuri, and the Kolkata Chicken Biryani. Accompaniments include Papor and Bhoger Tomato Chutney round out the meal on the side.

The meal concludes on a sweet note with a spread of Bengali sweet classics. Guests finish their experience by savouring the classic Mishti Doi, Payesh, (Bengal’s festive rice pudding), Rosogolla, and Sondesh, a signature of the Bengali mithai tradition.
