NDA Convenor : March 15, 2001 : George Fernandes resigned as India’s Defence Minister in March 2001 following the Tehelka sting operation, known as Operation West End. He stated he stepped down to protect the morale of the armed forces after the portal released hidden-camera tapes exposing corruption in defense deals. After an inquiry and clearance by the Phukan Commission, Fernandes returned to the Union Cabinet as Defence Minister later in October 2001.
- L.K. Advani resigned as a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament January 16, 1996 after his name appeared in the Jain hawala diaries. He vowed not to return to public office until the courts cleared his name, which happened in 1997, allowing him to run for re-election in 1998.
- Madhavrao Scindia resigned as the Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism in January 1993, taking immediate moral responsibility after a leased Russian Tu-154 plane crashed while landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao accepted his resignation, though Scindia later returned to the cabinet as Human Resource Development Minister in 1995
- Shashi Tharoor resigned as the Minister of State for External Affairs on April 18, 2010, due to a controversy over the Kochi IPL franchise, and returned to the Union Council of Ministers on October 28, 2012, as the Minister of State for Human Resource Development.
Union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan is under fire for the NEET paper leaks . And that he is under immense pressure to resign after massive protests at Jantar Mantar by the CJP and the unreleneting fast by Sonam Wangschuk . The protests have strirred the nation. What was more shocking was the high- handed of the Delhi Police who lathi charged the students . The action had ignited the fire in the opposition and putting the government in scrutiny . Lop Rahul Gandhi led the protests outside Prime Minister’s residentat Lok Kalyan marge and was forcibly lifted by policemen. Gandi however remain unfazed the treatement and demanded resignation Dharmendra Pradahan and Prime Minister narendra Modi to apologise .. The face off between Government and Opposition over NEET resulted in yet another parliament session this time monsoon unable to conduct any business .
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an apparent damage control has promised to fast track courts and speedy trials of those accused and see thet they are punished . But the message was too late . The damage was already done.
BJP has often at slight pretext asked opposition leader’s and Chief Minister’s to resign on moral grounds – Remember former Delhi CM and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal over Liquor scam ( later got clean chit by a Delhi Court). But when it comes to them and their ministers . It remains defiant and unwilling to bend.
Before the monsoon session got under way Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged for productive sesssion which is a good one . However, when Dharmendra Pradhan has accepted the NEET leak then why spoil the whole monsoon session due to one minister ? . The government has promised debate on the issue in parliament .
But unfortunately one has seen over the years whatever the topic, the government’s counter to opposition’s charges has nothing to do with the present but always going back to their perennial bashing of the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Congress and The UPA era . Hence It would not be surprise if the so called olive branch of debate by government over NEET to break the deadlock would ultimately land at the doorstep of Nehru.
It is painful to see young students from different parts of the country assembled for days on the streets of New Delhi. Their anxieties and concerns regarding the examination system are genuine and must be handled with empathy and a desire to find a lasting solution. I fervently…

Lastly , Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often boasted of Modi guarantee and accountability and the slogan – SABKA SAATH SABKA VIKAS SABKA VISHWAS then he should sack Pradhan at the earliestafter all the slogans are his . If students are hurt( lathi charged) and angry where is the vishwas ? .
Pradhan who hails from Odisha is losing support from his state too. Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik extended his support to students protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak, calling the situation “very serious” and backing the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Clearly time is now running out for Dharmendra Pradhan. Will he resign? Time will tell . Watch this space.
