Amidst the covid surge The West Bengal elections is now heading towards the climax as the state is ready for the the next face-off in as the sixth phase of voting for Assembly polls will be held on Thursday. Both TMC and BJP have claimed high voting in first five phases going their way. Making political pundits scratch their heads as to which way the mood is swinging.
In Phase-VI, polling will be held in 43 constituencies in four districts to decide the fate of a total of 306 candidates including 27 women. Among the 43 constituencies, nine are in Uttar Dinajpur, eight in Purba Bardhaman, nine in Nadia and 17 are in the North 24 Parganas district.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier tweeted her opposition in holding 8 phase polls due to rising covid numbers
Amid an ongoing pandemic, we firmly opposed @ECISVEEP‘s decision to conduct WB polls in 8 phases.
Now, in view of the huge surge in #COVID19 cases, I urge the ECI to consider holding the remaining phases in ONE go. This will protect the people from further exposure to #COVID19.

Over 1.03 crore voters including 50.65 lakh women and 256 of the third gender are there in this phase of the election. As many as 14,480 polling stations have been designated in the sixth phase.
