United Against Terror, US Backs India’s Naming Of Terrorists Under Amended UAPA Law

Backing India on its move to declare Lashkar-e-Tayiba founder Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and three others individual terrorists under the new anti-terror law, the US has said the move has expanded possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in fighting terrorism.

“We stand with India and commend it for utilising new legal authorities to designate 4 notorious terrorists: Maulana Masood Azhar, Hafiz Saeed, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and Dawood Ibrahim. This new law expands possibilities for joint US-India efforts to combat scourge of terrorism, tweeted Alice Wells, the acting assistant secretary for South and Central Asia.

On Wednesday, LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar, LeT’s supreme commander of operations in Kashmir Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim were designated as terrorists under the amended Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act through a government notification.

These four are involved in terrorist attacks in India and have been designated as global terrorists under United Nations.
