Player of the match Kaur scored the winner in the 22nd deflections off a penalty corner as India’s women advanced to the semi-finals for the first time.
The Indian women hockey team’s best finish came at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow when they finished fourth among six teams.
In the semi-finals, they will take on Argentina, who scored a 3-0 win over Germany.
