TMC War: Mukul Roy to quit after Durga Puja, Party suspends him for 6 years

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy announced his intention to quit the party post Durga Puja, the party suspended him for six years. Speaking to reporters hours after Roy’s announcement, party leader Partha Chatterjee said he was surprised at the puja excuse, a CNN-News 18 report said.

According to various media reports, It is learnt that Roy has in the recent past has been seen hobnobbing with BJP leaders and this did not go down well with the TMC. Roy , had been along time supporter of Mamata Banerjee

Asking why Roy was waiting for the puja to end he said that if he want’s to resign he must do so right now. Announcing party’s decision to suspend him for six years, Chatterjee said there’s no place for those who indulge in anti-party activities and join hands with other parties. When asked about the unity within the party, Chatterjee said the TMC is united under Mamata Banerjee and has full confidence in her leadership, the channel reported further.

Earlier in the day, in a major jolt for TMC, senior party leader Mukul Roy announced his resignation from the primary membership of the party. Speaking to reporters, the former Union Railway Minister also announced his resignation from the Rajya Sabha, the channel said. Roy said that he will resign from the party after the end of the Durga Puja. “With a heavy heart I announce that I will quit from the Trinamool Congress,” he said as per the channel.

When asked the reason behind his step, Roy said he will reveal everything after some time, “I will reveal why I am resigning from the party, after Durga Puja,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
