Penguin Random House is proud to announce the release of The Turning Point: The Naval Role in Sri Lanka’s War on LTTE Terrorism by Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda. This compelling account provides an insider’s perspective on the crucial years of the fourth Eelam war, from 2006 to 2009, during which Admiral Karannagoda led the Sri Lanka Navy to a decisive victory over the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Admiral Karannagoda, who became the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy on 1 September 2005, is renowned for his innovative strategies that transformed the navy from a ‘brown water’ force to a formidable ‘blue water’ navy capable of high-seas operations. His tenure was marked by significant achievements, including the deployment of naval task forces over 3200 km away from Sri Lanka to intercept and destroy LTTE ‘floating warehouse ships’ near Indonesian and Australian waters. This strategic move effectively cut off vital supplies to the LTTE, crippling their ability to sustain the war.
One of Admiral Karannagoda’s most notable contributions was the introduction of the ‘small boat concept,’ which revolutionized coastal warfare and led to the complete destruction of the LTTE Sea Tiger wing. His leadership and innovative tactics played a pivotal role in the comprehensive defeat of the LTTE.
The Turning Point offers readers a ringside view of the war, providing valuable insights into military strategy and leadership. It is an essential read for anyone interested in modern naval warfare, counter-terrorism, and the history of Sri Lanka.
