Gujarat Titans attained the top spot in the points table as they upset five-time Champions Mumbai Indians in rain-hit Tata IPL 2025 encounter by 3 wickets by DLS method. The loss to GT ended MI’s winning streak of six matches .

Earlier , GT Skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first. His bowlers were on target straight away. MI openers – Ryan Rickelton ( 2) and Rohit Sharma ( 7) were dismissed cheaply. GT would have had MI in further trouble had not Sai Sudharsan dropped Will Jacks on 0.

Jacks was dropped again on 29 but fell after scoring 53 ( 35 balls , 5 fours, 3 sixes). Suryakumar Yadav too was dropped by sloppy GT fielding but SKY could not carry on and was out for 35 ( 24 balls , 5 fours) .

GT did a fab job keeping the power MI batting line-up in check and never allowed them to get away. They kept on the pressure and MI batting succumbed.

MI Skipper Hardik Pandya ( 1), Tilak Varma ( 7), Naman Dhir ( 7) . Corbin Bosch hit some lusty shots in his 27 ( 22 balls , 1 four, 2 sixes) . Deepak Chahar not out ( 8) and Karn Sharma not out 1 as MI battled hard to reach 155/ 8 in their 20 overs.

It was below par total and Hardik Pandya would admit later post -match that they were 20- 25 runs short.

With rain about to intervene and DLS score par becoming crucial Sherfane Rutherford played blazing cameo 28 ( 15 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) to put GT ahead of MI in the DLS par score . It was the game changing knock . MI Skipper Hardik Pandya bowled two no-balls , 3 wides, in his first over and that went for 18 runs. Will Jacks conceded 15 in an over to put GT on track. GT Lost Shahrukh Khan ( 6) , Rashid Khan ( 2) and Gerald Coetzee ( 12) in a hurry .

Eventually, they attained the revised target of 147 off the last ball of the match, which was reduced to 19 overs.

The break resulted in the target being revised to 147, and when play resumed at 12.30, GT needed to score 15 runs in one over.

Rahul Tewatia (11 not out) hit the first ball off Deepak Chahar for a four and Gerald Coetzee (12) hit the third for six, but the bowler overstepped on the next delivery.
