Mumbai Indians came out with a dominant show to rout Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs in a Tata IPL 2025 encounter to further boost their play- offs hopes.
LSG Skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first . It was a decision he would later regret . MI were off to blazing start with openers – Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. Rickelton particular led the charge . Rohit hit some to delightful sixes before he was out for 12. Ryan Rickelton went on and smashed a power fifty a fine 58 ( 32 balls, 6 fours, 4 sixes) setting the platform for others to follow.
MI innings continued the momentum with Will Jacks 29 ( 21 balls , 3 fours, 1 six) , Suryakumar Yadav wasted no time and raced to a stunning innings of 54 ( 28 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes) to put MI on course for big target.
Minor hiccups though with Tilak Varma fell for 6 and MI Skipper Hardik Pandya was out 5.
MI however, finished well with a cameo on debut by Corbin Bosch 20 ( 10 balls, 2 fours, 1 six) and Naman Dhir 25 not out ( 11 balls , 2 fours, 2 sixes) . LSG bowling wilted at the end and were let down by poor fielding too. LSG Skipper Rishabh Pant was distraught by his bowlers line and length. MI eventually posting 215/ 7 in their 20 overs.
LSG Bowling : On a comeback Mayank Yadav bagged 2/ 40 ( 4 overs) , Prince Yadav 1/ 44 ( 4 overs) Digvesh Rathi 1/ 48 ( 4 overs) , Ravi Bishnoi 1/ 41 ( 4 overs) , Avesh Khan 2/ 42 ( 4 overs)
In reply to the stiff MI total , LSG lost in-from opener Aiden Markram for 9. Mitchell Marsh looked in ominous touch but could not carry on out for 34 ( 24 balls , 3 fours, 2 sixes). Nicholas Pooran made a quick 27 ( 15 balls , 1 four, 3 sixes) but fell at the wrong time. LSG Skipper Rishabh Pant was out cheaply for 4. Ayush Badoni 35 ( 22 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes) , David Miller 24 ( 16 balls, 3 fours). The big innings that LSG were looking for did not come. Abdul Samad out for 2. Regular wickets dented LSG chase. Ravi Bishnoi ( 13 ), Avesh Khan ( 0), Prince Yadav not out 4 . Digvesh Rathi (1). LSG could manage 161 / 10 in their 20 overs.
MI bowling : Jasprit Bumrah was red hot with 4/ 22( 4 overs), well supported by Trent Boult 3/ 20( 4 overs) , Deepak Chahar 0/ 38 ( 3 overs) , Will Jacks 2/ 18 ( 2 overs) , Karn Sharma 0/ 25 ( 2 overs), Hardik Pandya 0/ 10 ( 1 over) , Corbin Bosch 1/ 26 ( 4 overs)
While MI continues to improve with every match , LSG on the other hand which had begun well is suddenly now sliding with series of losses and play- offs chances gets tougher.
