Majestic Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford put on a superb 100 run stand to power Gujarat Titans to victory by 7 wickets over Delhi Capitals in a Tata IPL 2025 encounter .
Earlier, on a hot afternoon with temperatures at 40 degrees at Narendra Modi stadium , Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans Skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first. DC opened with Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair . Siraj began with an erratic first over conceding 16 runs in the first over.
DC opener Porel was aggressive and looked set for big one before he smashed a full toss Siraj off Arshad for 18 ( 9 balls, 3 fours, 1 six). Nair stayed on and played some cracking shots to score to 31 ( 18 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes), Skipper Axar Patel leading from the front continued the good work with 39 ( 32 balls , 1 four 2 sixes).
KL Rahul in fine touch unfortunately could not carry on out for a quick 28 ( 14 balls , 4 fours , 1 six) . DC charge went further with Tristan Stubbs 31 ( 21 balls , 2 fours, 1 six) and Ashutosh Sharma gave the finishing touches with 37 ( 19 balls, 2 fours, 3 sixes).
Impact player Donovan Ferreira could score only (1), Vipraj Nigam (0) . Mitchell Starc not out 2, Kuldeep Yadav not out 4 as DC scored an impressive 203/ 8 in their 20 overs.
GT bowling : Prasidh Krishna once again was excellent with 4/ 41 ( 4 overs) last over of his went for 15 runs though. Mohammed Siraj wayward in his 1/ 47 ( 4 overs) , Arshad Khan 1/ 46 ( 4 overs) , Rashid Kahn 0/ 38 ( 4 overs), Ishant Sharma used all his experience 1/ 19 ( 3 overs), Sai Kishore 0/ 5 ( 1 over)
In GT L:o reply lost Skipper Shubman Gill run-out for 7 . In- from Sai Sudharsan kept the chase on track with 36 ( 21 balls , 5 fours , 1 six).
But the game changing innings for GT came from Jos Buttler. In terrific form Buttler anchored the chase and remained unbeaten with superb 97 ( 54 balls, 11 fours, 4 sixes) .
Along with Sherfane Rutherford 43 ( 34 balls, 1 four, 3 sixes) put on 100 run stand to spoil DC hopes of a win. Rahul Tewatia finished the match in the final over with six and four as GT chased down 200 plus with style for the first time . GT reaching 204/ 3 in 19. 2 overs. The win puts them on top of the points table.
