Capitalising on a poor batting display by Gujarat Titans , Lucknow Super Giants successfully defended their modest total to win the encounter in emphatic manner by 33 runs .
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants Skipper K L Rahul opted to bat first after winning the toss at Lucknow against Gujarat Titans. The team did not get off to the start they wished as batsmen struggled to force the pace of scoring. Dangerous opener Quinton de Kock fell early for ( 6) . Devdutt Padikkal was out for ( 7).
LSG Skipper K L Rahul and Marcus Stonis stitched together a partnership but they consumed many balls in the process . K L Rahul could manage 33 ( 31 balls , 3 fours) . Stoinis finally got to his fifty after a rather series of low scores scoring 58 ( 43 balls , 4 fours, 2 sixes). Ayush Badoni swung his bat for quick 21 ( 11 balls, 3 fours).
Thanks to late cameo from Nicholas Pooran who remained not out at 32( 22 balls , 3 sixes). LSG could manage a modest 163/ 5 in their 20 overs. Krunal Pandya was the other batsman not out 2 .
GT bowling was on target : Umesh Yadav 2/ 22 ( 3 overs), Spencer Johnson 0/ 32 ( 4 overs), Rashid Khan 1/ 28 ( 4overs), Noor Ahmed 0/ 22 ( 4 overs), Mohit Sharma 0/ 34 ( 3 overs), Darshan Nalkande 2/ 21 ( 2 overs).
Chasing 164 , GT began well with Openers Skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan . The duo put on 54 in 6 overs for the first wicket. Gill fell to beauty of delivery from Yash Thakur bowled for 19 ( 21 balls, 2 fours ).
Two runs later Kiwi Kane Williamson was caught and bowled brilliantly by Ravi Bishnoi for (1). GT continued to lose wickets . Another two runs later at total 58 , Sai Sudharshan fell for 31 ( 23 balls, 4 fours ). GT innings were tottering . Sharath BR was out for 2 , Darshan Nalkande holed out for 12 .

Krunal Pandya was superb with figures of 3/11 ( 4 overs). GT hopes further dipped as Vijay Shankar was out for ( 17) with total at 93 / 6 . Rashid Khan did not bother the scorers as he was out for ( 0). Umesh Yadav (2) . GT 115/ 8 in 17 overs. Rahul Tewatia hung on for a while but could score 30. He ran out of partners. GT were eventually bowled out for 130/ 10 ( 18. 5 overs) .
Yash Thakur for LSG bagged the first five wicket haul of Tata IPL 2024 with a superb spell of bowling – 5/ 30 .
